18 Birth Control Bosses Trying to Sue in Affordable Care Act Lawsuit
Category: Birth Control
As of today, 18 for-profit companies have filed lawsuits to earn the right to deny women access to birth control with no co-pay. That’s right — even though the birth control benefit, as part of the Affordable Care Act, already provides an exemption for religious institutions and places of worship, these for-profit companies think they should have the right to decide whether women get access to affordable birth control. Because they personally don’t agree with it.
There’s David Green, the CEO of Hobby Lobby, a craft store chain with 21,000 employees who wants to have the right to dictate his employees’ health care decisions. And there’s also the CEO of Autocam, a transportation and medical equipment company who, in spite of saying, “I don’t tell my employees how to live their lives or how make decisions about family planning or abortion,” has sued so he can do precisely that.
The fact that 70 percent of Americans support the birth control benefit isn’t stopping these mostly male CEO’s from opposing a benefit that’s good for women and families. To make matters worse, there are 11 politicians in Washington — all male — lining up to support them.
While these politicians are siding with the bosses, we’re siding with the vast majority of Americans who believe that birth control is basic, preventive care and should be available with no co-pay. Women should be able to make the decisions about their health care, without interference from politicians or their bosses.

I'm a Feminist and Proud of It!
Reductive attacks like the TIME poll (and those voting against the word “feminist") just proves how much we need feminism — and people who will stand up and fight for equality. Add your name if you're one of them!
