Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Deborah Ross - a proven champion with a strong record of service in North Carolina.  Deborah understands that issues of equal access to health care are not ‘just women’s issues’: they are economic issues and impact all North Carolinians. We need a fighter in the Senate who will stand up for values like equal pay, preserve and strengthen historic health care reform, expand access to care for low income individuals, and fight for the millions of patients who access Planned Parenthood health centers every year. Deborah is that candidate and we’re proud to join her in this fight.”

Deborah Ross is a longtime champion of women’s health, safety and equal pay. She has worked on legislation to crack down on domestic violence and support survivors.  In the North Carolina House of Representatives, she passed legislation that increased the penalty for violating a protective order while armed with a deadly weapon.  She has consistently fought against government interference in women’s personal health care decisions, stood up for women’s health rights, and worked to protect state funding for Planned Parenthood. She also introduced an equal pay bill that would have prohibited employers from paying men and women differently for the same work, permitted two years of retroactive pay, and prevented retaliation.
