The Trump-Pence administration is back with a vicious, new, and unprecedented attack on reproductive health care and the patients who rely on Planned Parenthood.
Our last line of defense is in the courts — and that’s where Planned Parenthood is headed.
Planned Parenthood is suing the Trump-Pence administration, because they can’t just ignore the law around Title X and access to reproductive health care.
Of course, that’s exactly what the Trump-Pence administration is doing. The administration is preventing patients from visiting Planned Parenthood health centers and is promoting harmful abstinence education instead of providing access to birth control.
They’re doing this by completely remaking the Title X program, aka the nation’s federal program dedicated to affordable birth control and reproductive health care.
This is a big deal — more than 4 million people rely on Title X for their health care. Health care services provided through Title X mostly serve people with low incomes, who couldn’t otherwise afford health care services on their own. In fact, 78% of Title X patients have incomes below 150% of the federal poverty level.
Planned Parenthood health centers are the nation’s largest Title X provider, serving 41% of all Title X patients. That means that attacks on Title X are also attacks on Planned Parenthood.
The Trump-Pence administration's approach has devastating consequences for patients and could threaten health care for millions of people.
Title X provides preventive health care to those most in need, and it helps women with low incomes avoid hundreds of thousands of unintended pregnancies each year. Without it, they wouldn’t be able to access birth control, STD testing and treatment, cancer screenings, or regular checkups.
Let’s call this what it is: the Trump-Pence administration’s attempt to impose its ideology on people — no matter how many it hurts. The administration is trying to tell women what kind of birth control to use — or in many cases not to use any method of birth control at all. They’re trying to push people toward abstinence instead of helping them get quality health care.
This isn’t the first time Planned Parenthood took Trump to court. Planned Parenthood recently sued the Trump-Pence administration for trying to eliminate the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPPP), which funds a wide range of programs that have been proven to reduce unintended pregnancy.
And guess what? Planned Parenthood won. The judge even declared that siding with Planned Parenthood would “prevent harm to the community.” Now, we need your help to add fuel to the fire.
