Fact Check: Rick Scott's New Ad is a Portrait of Lies
For Immediate Release: June 7, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Rick Scott has reached a new level of audacity. On the same day that Rick Scott released a campaign ad claiming it’s “ridiculous” to say he hates birth control, he led Republican efforts to strike down protections for birth control in the U.S. Senate. Let us repeat: On. The. Same. Day.
And let’s not forget that when Rick Scott had an opportunity to protect IVF, he decided instead to introduce what was described as “empty, symbolic” legislation while his party blocked all real efforts to protect it.
“Rick Scott is trying to manipulate voters, by saying one thing in his ads and doing the exact opposite in DC. Shame on him. Floridians deserve better from their U.S. Senator. They deserve someone who will stand up for their health care and freedom, not Rick Scott, who pushes his anti-abortion, anti-contraception ideology and then lies to voters about it just to get elected,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes. “Rick Scott has spent his career in elected office attacking Floridians’ right to make decisions about their own health and future. He’s used his position in the U.S. Senate to push a national abortion ban that would put doctors in prison. He praised the U.S. Supreme Court for overturning Roe and then urged the court to go even further to ban mifepristone, a safe and effective drug used for medication abortion and miscarriage care. Scott believes that life begins at conception and he’ll continue to impose his dangerous personal opinions on Floridians and the American people if re-elected to the Senate.
“It’s time to get Rick Scott and his ilk out of our health care decisions. At no point in pregnancy is a politician more qualified to make your health care decisions than you and your doctor.”
