WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for President, Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes released the following statement:

“We are thrilled to join the effort to elect Kamala Harris as our next president. Kamala Harris gets things done, and as president, she will work to protect reproductive health care nationwide. The stakes of this election have not changed. We must do everything in our power to beat Donald Trump and J.D. Vance in November. The Trump-Vance presidential ticket is the biggest threat to reproductive freedom that we’ve seen in generations. Every day, new reporting emerges on Vance’s dangerous positions on abortion, and every day more and more Americans learn about abortion opponents’ plans to further block our rights with the Project 2025 plot. We know we can beat them. Abortion is a top issue for voters in 2024, and Kamala Harris is the relentless champion we need protecting reproductive rights in the White House.”

Vice President Kamala Harris is the only presidential candidate who can mobilize voters and win this year. The contrast between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris could not be clearer: While Donald Trump created our country’s abortion access crisis and called abortion bans “a beautiful thing,” Vice President Harris has been leading the effort to defend and protect abortion rights. She led a nationwide tour speaking out about the harmful impacts of abortion bans and is the first sitting leader of a presidential administration to visit a Planned Parenthood health center. Vice President Harris has never let up on her commitment to reproductive rights.

The fact is, Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and their anti-abortion allies never planned to stop at overturning Roe v. Wade. They were just getting started. We already know how they will govern, because we’ve seen the results of the first Trump presidency: In every state where anti-abortion rights politicians have the power to enact laws, they have pursued restrictions on sexual and reproductive health care and abortion bans. With Project 2025, Trump’s cronies already have a plan to end abortion in all 50 states and attack our reproductive rights on day one, using every lever they can — even without Congress.

We know we can beat Trump, and Kamala Harris is the perfect candidate to deliver the message about the importance of abortion access in the 2024 election. When abortion is on the ballot, reproductive freedom wins — and there is no doubt that abortion is on the ballot in 2024. Anti-abortion rights politicians know it too. That’s why they’re running scared and hiding from their own records and positions. Speakers at the Republican National Conference didn't mention the word “abortion” once, and candidates are frantically scrubbing their websites. Voters want politicians like Trump out of their personal decisions.

Poll after poll reaffirms voters’ support for abortion rights, and they will show up to protect abortion access:

  • According to Gallup, a record-high 23% of U.S. voters say they would only vote for a candidate for major office who shares a “pro-choice” view on abortion — twice as many as in 2020.
  • A Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that 1 in 8 voters now say that abortion is the most important issue for their vote in the 2024 elections. Voters who say abortion is the “most important issue” in their 2024 vote are overwhelmingly Black voters, Democratic voters, women voters, and young women voters — ages 18 to 49.
  • According to an NBC News poll, 43% of Americans rate abortion as a 10 on a 1-to-10 scale — meaning it's most important to them; 61% rate it at least an 8.

The American people are clear: At no point during pregnancy should politicians’ personal opinions have a say in the medical decisions that should be between our health care providers and our families. And Kamala Harris is the presidential candidate who will help us achieve that reality.
