WASHINGTON, D.C. — Monday, June 24 marks the second anniversary of the catastrophic Dobbs decision that eliminated federal abortion rights and allowed states to ban abortion. Since then, as hostile politicians have implemented abortion bans in 21 states, voters have proved time and time again that they care about abortion access and will vote for champions who stand with them. Now, GOP candidates who celebrated the Dobbs decisions are rightfully running scared and trying to hide their records. But we know the truth. In every state where anti-abortion politicians have the power to enact laws, they have pursued restrictions on sexual and reproductive health care and total abortion bans — and have largely succeeded. These out-of-touch candidates may scrub their websites or “moderate” and spin their views on abortion, but they’ve already shown voters where they stand and it will cost them at the ballot box.

Here’s a refresher on what GOP Senate candidates in key states said when the Dobbs decision came down:

  • Eric Hovde (Candidate for U.S. Senate, WI): Told AP he supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
  • Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL): I firmly believe that life begins at conception and that every child deserves to be welcomed into this world with open and loving arms…while we celebrate the Court’s latest ruling, the fight to protect the sanctity of life is not over. Lawmakers and the pro-life movement have the responsibility to make adoption more accessible and affordable, and do everything in our power to meet the needs of struggling women and their families so they can choose life. We cannot stop fighting until every life, born and unborn, is valued.”
  • David McCormick (Candidate for U.S. Senate, PA): In 2022, he said overturning Roe “would be a huge step forward and a huge victory for the protection of life.”
  • Sam Brown (Candidate for U.S. Senate, NV): In 2022, Brown tweeted, “I am proudly pro life and await final SCOTUS ruling.” following the leak.
  • Kari Lake (Candidate for U.S. Senate, AZ): In response to the leaked Dobbs opinion, Lake tweeted, “Life Wins.”
  • Bernie Moreno (Candidate for U.S. Senate, OH): In 2022, Moreno called for Roe to be overturned.
  • Royce White (Candidate for U.S. Senate, MN): Tweeted that Dobbs was an “affirmation of human rights.”
