ROLL CALL: 15 House GOP Candidates in Competitive Districts Who Couldn't Care Less About Your Right to Birth Control
For Immediate Release: June 7, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In races across the country, Republican candidates are pretending they suddenly care about your reproductive rights. But this week, House Republicans had the chance to back up their campaign trail talk with action — and what did they do? They blocked efforts to protect birth control.
Fifteen of the House Republicans who refused to advance the Right to Contraception Act are running in competitive districts — with voters watching their every move. And still, these politicians rejected the right to birth control — although the vast majority of Americans want easier access to contraception. If the past few months are any guide, these candidates will travel home this weekend and follow the same playbook as other anti-abortion candidates: hit the campaign trail, and try to fool voters by saying they support reproductive rights. It’s time for voters to hold them accountable.
“Republican House members’ blatant hypocrisy was on stark display this week. It is absolutely unacceptable that politicians tell voters one thing, then turn around and do the exact opposite in D.C. But voters aren’t stupid; they know these candidates want to take away their reproductive rights, and House Republicans’ vote against the right to birth control only makes that more stark. Voters will see right through their attempts to manipulate them. And Planned Parenthood Votes will be here every day until November to make sure voters know the truth, and hold accountable any candidates who think the path to getting elected is through lies and hypocrisy,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes.
Fifteen of the politicians who rejected birth control protections this week are in competitive districts that Planned Parenthood Votes has identified as key targets in the 2024 election. These lawmakers include:

- Rep. John Duarte (CA 13)

- Rep. Kevin Kiley (CA 3)
