WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Iowa’s abortion ban goes into effect, raising the number of states with abortion bans to 22. Let’s be absolutely clear: Donald Trump is responsible.

Donald Trump has spent the last two years claiming credit for overturning Roe v. Wade, so let’s give credit where it’s due: For the 22 states where all or some abortion is now banned. Now 29 million women, plus trans and nonbinary people — including over half of all Black women in the U.S. — live in states that ban abortion and have lost the right to control their own bodies. Pregnant patients are getting airlifted across state lines for emergency care. Others are being forced to carry nonviable pregnancies with devastating diagnoses, or being put in life-threatening circumstances because abortion bans prevent their doctors from providing critical health care.

“Welcome to Trump’s America, where 44% of women lose autonomy over their bodies the moment they become pregnant. Trump stacked the Supreme Court with judges who have long records of opposition to reproductive health and rights, he has bragged about the overturning of Roe, and he’s applauded states for passing these cruel bans. We are now living the consequences of his actions,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes. “We can’t afford a second Trump presidency. If reelected, Trump and his allies want to ban abortion in every state, and they will come for IVF and birth control next. With Project 2025, Trump’s cronies already have a plan to fundamentally alter the American government, grant him more presidential power, and end abortion nationwide on day one, using every lever they can — even without Congress. We won’t let them win in November.”

In stark contrast, Kamala Harris always fights for the people, and as president, she will never stop fighting for our rights. She understands that no one is free unless they control their bodies, lives, and futures. Voters want to vote for a candidate who will use the full force of the office and work with Congress to protect abortion access and fight for our right to control our own bodies, lives, and futures. Kamala Harris is that candidate.
