WHAT VOTERS ARE READING: Trump Aligns with Hostile Group that Wants Abortion “Eradicated”
For Immediate Release: June 11, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Donald Trump once again proves that he will say and do anything to get elected. The GOP presidential candidate and convicted felon spent his Monday with the Danbury Institute, a far-right group that vehemently wants to eliminate access to abortion and opposes LGBTQ+ equality. But on the campaign trail, Trump is still trying to hide from his anti-abortion record and lie to voters to get elected, by dodging questions, spreading disinformation, and calling the state abortion bans he is responsible for “a beautiful thing to watch.”
“Trump may flip-flop on abortion and say whatever he thinks will get him elected, but his actions speak louder,” said Jenny Lawson, executive director for Planned Parenthood Votes. “The American people want the government to stay out of their medical decisions, but Donald Trump is vowing to work ‘side by side’ with the Danbury Institute — a fanatical, far-right organization whose mission is to ‘eradicate’ abortion entirely, and calls this essential health care the ‘greatest atrocity’ and ‘child sacrifice.’ With allies like these, you can’t trust Trump with your freedoms but you can trust his disastrous record on abortion. He’s bragged about overturning Roe, wants abortion patients to be criminally punished, and will happily do the bidding of dangerous groups like the Danbury Institute in a second term and sign a national abortion ban. Trump only cares about himself. There is no limit to the lengths he will go to get back in the Oval Office — and that includes trampling on all our rights, our democracy, and everything we hold dear.”
