Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Responds to Governor Newsom’s May Budget Revision

Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California is proud of the work that advocates, the Administration, and the Legislature have done over the last two years to ensure that California is a reproductive freedom state following the reversal of Roe v. Wade. Today’s proposed revisions to the state budget rolls back historic investments in the state’s Medi-Cal program and jeopardize the ability of Medi-Cal providers to provide much needed services, including sexual and reproductive health care, to the 1 in 3 Californians that rely on Medi-Cal for their care. California’s seven Planned Parenthood affiliates will continue to fight for reproductive freedom, health equity, and the ability to provide care to every person who needs it, no matter what.
Statement from Jodi Hicks, President/CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California:
“Planned Parenthood in California is deeply disappointed by the proposal in the May Revise that will jeopardize access to not just sexual and reproductive care but quality, affordable health care across the board for the nearly 15 million Californians who rely on Medi-Cal. While we recognize the current state budget pressures, we must ensure all Californians – no matter where they live or how much money they earn – can fulfill their essential need for health care. This includes supporting our state’s safety net providers so that they are able to care for their patients. We look forward to working with our partners, the Legislature, and the Governor’s office so the budget reflects our state’s values as a reproductive freedom state and commits to principles of health equity as it relates to meaningful access to care for the Medi-Cal population.”
