Digital Ads and Direct Mail Highlight Anti-Abortion Records of Candidates, New Social Video Featuring Abortion Storyteller Released

Sacramento – Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Votes PAC launches a seven-figure digital and mail campaign this week focused on ousting anti-abortion politicians in several competitive Congressional districts in California. The ads are running in Congressional Districts including 13, 45, and 47.

“Voters deserve to know where their Congressional candidates stand on the issue of abortion and reproductive health care, especially when candidates like John Duarte, Michelle Steel, and Scott Baugh are trying to rewrite or hide their records on these issues,” said Jodi Hicks, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California. “We are committed to ensuring that voters in these critical districts understand that abortion is under attack, even in California, and there are dangerous consequences if we elect representatives who don’t support reproductive freedom. This election, freedom is on the line, and we decide what comes next.”

The ads will run across digital platforms until Election Day and mail pieces will start hitting mailboxes in advance of ballots dropping in early October. The ads and mail showcase the voting records and statements of candidates, highlighting their alignment with anti-abortion policies that threaten to undermine reproductive rights and health care access, even in California.

New polling released last week shows the races in these districts are very close. Informing voters about issues like abortion can be critical to increasing the margins, especially when candidates are trying to shy away from their anti-abortion records as described in this CBS News article recently.

In addition to the paid ads, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Votes PAC launched a new video on social media featuring a woman sharing her abortion story and the importance of flipping Congressional seats here in California to stop a national abortion ban.

“The road to reproductive freedom runs through California and we cannot afford to let misinformation and complacency steer us in the wrong direction,” Hicks added. “This campaign is about empowering voters to make informed choices this November that protect their ability to make decisions about their bodies, lives, and futures.”
