The Maine People’s Alliance recently announced its endorsement of Cassie Julia, Democratic candidate for Maine State Representative for House District 65, representing Waterville.

Statement from Lisa Margulies, Esq., Vice President of Public Affairs, Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund PAC on MPA endorsement of Cassie Julia
We are thrilled to be joined by Maine People’s Alliance in endorsing Cassie Julia to represent House District 65 in the June 11 Democratic Primary.

This race is about who the people of Waterville want making decisions on their behalf in Augusta, and as MPA pointed out in their endorsement announcement, Julia brings “enormous energy and passion to the cause of public education in Maine and to the needs of many groups of Maine citizens who turn to their government to defend their right to thrive.”

In addition to advocating for education, Julia has pledged to fight for all Mainers’ rights to the health care they need when they need it, including reproductive care and care for transgender people. As MPA noted, Julia “has been an active advocate of public school funding and has been especially supportive of special-needs and LGBTQ+ students. She is an outspoken advocate of reproductive rights and gender-affirming care, and she would move on several fronts to decrease economic inequality and address urgent needs of families with low incomes.”

As Mainers celebrate PRIDE month, it’s important to remember that Julia has pledged to protect reproductive rights and health care for all. In April, Rep. Bruce White voted against protecting Maine’s providers of reproductive care and care for transgender people from attacks based on other states’ laws. Protecting providers ensures Mainers have access to the reproductive and gender-affirming care they need, and voters in Waterville will weigh White’s vote on LD 227 when they cast their ballots on June 11.
