(Portland, MAINE) – The Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund Political Action Committee is proud to endorse a slate of more than one hundred candidates for Maine state legislature.

Reproductive rights remain a central concern for voters in Maine and across the country, as 22 states have now enacted bans or near total bans on abortion and 43% of women plus trans and nonbinary people live in a state with an abortion ban. In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that revoked federal protections for abortion, Maine voters elected a pro-reproductive rights majority to the Maine legislature, and those lawmakers acted to protect access to abortion and related care.

Now, Mainers have a new opportunity to send reproductive rights champions to represent us in Augusta.

A majority of Mainers favor expanded access to abortion, and majorities of Americans (including Republicans) say it should be easier to access reproductive health care including birth control pills, in-vitro fertilization and abortion.

People opposed to reproductive rights and freedoms have proposed restrictions on birth control, imperiled the future of invitro fertilization (IVF) in this country, and have taken aim at LGBTQ rights, with 26 states enacting bans on care for transgender adolescents.

These politically motivated attacks are out of step with the will of voters. In every election where voters have had the opportunity to weigh on reproductive rights, reproductive rights win. Voters in Waterville ousted an anti-abortion Democrat in the June primary, in favor of a candidate who promises to protect and expand access to reproductive care.

Polling shows that that a majority of Americans say they could not support an elected official who supports banning contraception, banning IVF or a nationwide abortion ban. Another poll shows a majority of Americans say they could not support an elected official who supports banning health care for transgender people.

A list of candidates endorsed by PPMEAF PAC can be found below, with additional endorsements expected in the coming weeks.

Statement from Lisa Margulies, Vice President of Public Affairs, Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund PAC:

“Anyone who tells you that voters don’t care about reproductive freedom and legal abortion is deeply disconnected from Maine voters and Maine values.

After Dobbs, Maine voters elected a pro-reproductive rights majority to represent us in the legislature, and a majority of those lawmakers acted to protect and expand access to care. We have strong laws, but those laws can be repealed depending on who represents us in Augusta.

This election, all of our rights are on the line. We must elect leaders who will protect abortion access and fight for our right to control our own bodies, lives, and futures. The future of reproductive freedom in Maine depends on electing candidates we can trust to fight for our rights and our health care, and Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund PAC is proud to endorse this slate of candidates heading into November.”
