Against the backdrop of ongoing attacks on abortion and related care, Maine voters affirmed support for leaders who promise to fight for reproductive rights and freedoms

(Portland, MAINE) - Waterville voters made their voices heard Tuesday, and a majority cast ballots for Cassie Julia, who has pledged to fight for Mainers’ right to reproductive health care.

Julia, whose campaign for state legislature was endorsed by EqualityMaine, Maine People’s Alliance and Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund PAC, took on a three-term incumbent with a 18.5% career voting record on policy related to reproductive rights and health care in a moment when threats to this care have not been more dire.

Statement from Lisa Margulies, Esq., Vice President of Public Affairs, Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund PAC
"We are proud of Cassie Julia and her campaign for this important win for the people of Waterville and all Mainers.

Voters sent a clear message Tuesday: We expect our elected leaders to protect our reproductive rights and freedoms and if you do not, we will exercise our right to replace you with someone who will.

No one is more qualified to make private, deeply personal and complex medical decisions about pregnancy than patients and their medical providers. We need elected leaders who understand this and who will fight to protect Mainers’ right to make these decisions without political interference.

With a national abortion ban looming and the U.S. Supreme Court set to rule on cases that further threaten access to abortion care, we cannot afford to elect or re-elect politicians who vote against the will of Maine voters and Maine values.

We look forward to working with Cassie Julia and other lawmakers who will fight for Mainers’ reproductive rights and do everything in their power to ensure every Mainer has access to the health care they need, when they need it.”
