Harris was first sitting vice president to go a health center that provides abortions, the St. Paul Planned Parenthood

St. Paul, MN— Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted the nomination for president in the 2024 election with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Together, they have strong records on protecting reproductive freedom — including abortion. While Donald Trump created the nation’s abortion access crisis and called abortion bans “a beautiful thing,” Vice President Harris and Governor Walz have been leading the effort to defend and protect abortion rights.

“We are proud to have two Planned Parenthood champions at the top of the ticket, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota’s own Governor Tim Walz,” said Tim Stanley, executive director of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota Political Action Fund. When they visited the Planned Parenthood in St. Paul this March, they showed the country that they are serious about protecting access to essential health care. Harris and Walz show up. They care.

Vice President Harris, joined by Governor Walz, made a historic visit to the St. Paul Planned Parenthood in March of this year as the first sitting vice president to go a health center that provides abortions. The stop was her sixth in her nationwide “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour. Vice President Harris also rejected proposals to enact a national abortion ban, while outlining the administration’s work to safeguard reproductive freedom since the overturning of Roe v. Wade over two years ago.

In January 2023, Governor Walz signed the Protect Reproductive Options Act (PRO Act) ensuring that all Minnesotans are free to make their own reproductive health care decisions, including abortion. He also signed many other bills to protect access and support parents and families as Governor, including the Protect Access to Contraception Act, Dignity in Childbirth and Pregnancy Act, Child Tax Credit, and African American Family Preservation Act.

The Trump-Vance presidential ticket is the one of the biggest threats to reproductive freedom we’ve seen in generations. Trump has bragged about overturning Roe, he’s tried to defund Planned Parenthood, and he’s said that abortion patients should be punished. His running mate Vance has supported a national abortion ban, voted to block nationwide access to IVF, and consistently attacked and undermined reproductive freedom throughout his career.

"Abortion is on the ballot this November, and we have the power to decide what happens next,” said Stanley. “Everyone should have the freedom to control their own bodies, lives, and futures. With the Harris-Walz ticket, we can protect abortion, birth control, and IVF nationwide.”
