Election critical to protect access to abortion care in Minnesota

St. Paul, MN Planned Parenthood of Minnesota Political Action Fund (PPMPAF) has launched its electoral campaign to keep reproductive health care champions in office so that Minnesotans continue to have access to safe, legal abortion care and opportunities to reduce barriers to sexual and reproductive health care.

PPMPAF is investing $1.3 million in Minnesota this cycle to continue to protect the right of Minnesotans to make their own individual decisions about their reproductive health. Hundreds of thousands of voters will be reached by Planned Parenthood pink clad canvassers going door to door, phone and text banking, targeted mail and a robust wrap around digital ad series ahead of the 2024 election. This work builds upon the direct contributions of Planned Parenthood Minnesota PAC to candidates in critical races across the state. Minnesotans deserve to know if they are represented by politicians who believe they are more qualified than their constituents to make personal medical decisions.

“Because Roe was overturned, abortion is once again on the ballot in Minnesota,” said Tim Stanley, executive director of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota Political Action Fund. “It is a constant battle to protect our rights, even when Minnesotans agree: Everyone should get the health care they need, including abortion care, without politicians controlling when, where, or why.”

Minnesota champions have protected the right to abortion by passing the Protect Reproductive Options Act in 2023, but politicians that oppose women making their own decisions about their bodies are just a few votes away from passing a law to ban abortion in Minnesota. Minnesota Republicans have voted to ban abortion twice since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

"At no point in pregnancy is a politician more qualified to make health care decisions than a patient and their health care provider,” said Stanley. This November, we have the opportunity to build a better future — for Minnesotans and all Americans. One where everyone has access to essential health care, no matter your zip code, age, immigration status, race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or socioeconomic status.”
