Fwd: Senate Has One Last Opportunity to Support Abortion Early in Pregnancy with HCR 11, But Time is Running Out
For Immediate Release: May 24, 2024
In February, the NH House passed HCR 11, condemning medically unnecessary restrictions on medication abortion, with a strong bipartisan vote of 196-151. However, the New Hampshire Senate failed to take action on this important resolution before yesterday's deadline.
In response Kayla Montgomery, Vice President for Public Affairs at Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund, released the following statement:
“We are extremely disappointed that the NH Senate didn’t even consider this critical resolution, which came to them with strong bipartisan support. Any day, the US Supreme Court will rule on a case, which could affect access to mifepristone across the country, including here in New Hampshire.
If passed, this resolution would have recognized the importance of access to medication abortion. With zero legal protections for abortion in New Hampshire, Granite Staters want their state officials to do everything in their power to protect access to this critical medication - used for abortion early in pregnancy and for managing miscarriage. The Senate has outright failed to do that. It’s outrageous that Senate Republicans wouldn’t even have a debate about this resolution.
The reproductive health care landscape in this country is already in complete chaos. The Senate’s deliberate decision to perpetuate this unnecessary uncertainty for patients and providers won’t be forgotten.”
