Concord, N.H. — With contraception in the news this week as Republican Senators refused to support the Right to Contraception Act, Planned Parenthood NH Action Fund wants to remind Granite Staters that Kelly Ayotte does not care about reproductive rights. She has a staunch record of repeated votes to make birth control more expensive and harder to get. As a U.S. Senator, Ayotte actively fought to allow insurance companies and employers to refuse to cover birth control. If she is elected, voters can expect Ayotte to bring her anti-reproductive rights agenda to Concord.

“Kelly Ayotte has a decades-long record of opposing reproductive rights at every turn”, said Kayla Montgomery, Vice President of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood NH Action Fund. “As both New Hampshire’s Attorney General and as U.S. Senator, Ayotte never missed an opportunity to try to attack Granite Staters’ reproductive freedoms — from attempting to defund Planned Parenthood to trying to make birth control less accessible. If she is elected governor, she will only build on this disastrous and harmful record and push reproductive health care further out of reach for the people of New Hampshire.”

As a refresher, when Kelly Ayotte was in the U.S. Senate, she:

  • Voted and co-sponsored the Blunt amendment – which would have given insurers and employers the ability to deny coverage for any care, including abortion, IVF, and birth control.
  • Opposed the ACA contraception mandate.
  • Voted against legislation overturning The Supreme Court Hobby Lobby decision, allowing certain bosses to block their employees’ access to birth control.
  • Supported a proposal to allow over-the-counter birth control, while allowing elimination of health care coverage of birth control. This would have made contraceptives less accessible and more expensive.

Kelly Ayotte has spent her career pushing restrictions on access to birth control, abortion, and IVF. Voters in New Hampshire cannot trust her to support their rights as governor.
