ATLANTA, GA – Today, Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates (PPSEA) proudly announced their first round of endorsements for state candidates in Georgia. This year, many candidates submitted questionnaires seeking PPSEA's endorsement, underscoring the organization's growing influence and electoral power in the Southeast. Each candidate endorsed has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing reproductive rights, freedoms, and bodily autonomy.

The priority round of endorsed candidates includes:

For Georgia State Senate:

Nikki Merritt for Senate District 9

Nabilah Islam for Senate District 7

Ashwin Ramaswami for Senate District 48

Elena Parent for Senate District 44

For Georgia House of Representatives:

Debra Shigley for House District 47

Shea Roberts for House District 52

Marvin Lim for House District 98

Park Cannon for House District 58

Susie Greenberg for House District 69

Michelle Au for House District 50

Jasmine Clark for House District 108

Lisa Campbell for House District 35

Michelle Kang for House District 99

Sam Park for House District 107

Brian Feldman, Chair of the Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates C4 Board, said:

"We are proud to stand behind these candidates and propel them forward as they march toward victory in November. Now more than ever, we need candidates in office who will not only place reproductive rights on the agenda but will also prioritize them. The consequences of failing to do so are dire. With 40 days left, it’s time to fight harder than ever for everyone’s right to make decisions about their own bodies."

Jaylen Black, Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates Spokesperson, added:

"Just a few weeks ago, we were painfully reminded of the deadly consequences of Georgia’s draconian abortion ban. These endorsed candidates are staunch champions of the right to access abortion, birth control, IVF, and more across our state. Regardless of the outcome of the Presidential race, we need strong state-level candidates to fight back against anti-choice, pro-abortion ban politicians in our legislature. We are confident these candidates will stand up for the rights and freedoms of women and birthing people across Georgia."

This announcement builds on PPSEA’s ongoing power-building efforts across Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Earlier this year, PPSEA’s first-endorsed candidate in Alabama, Marilyn Lands, won a special election for Alabama House District 10, flipping a Republican-held seat with a strong platform focused on reproductive rights and IVF access.

Early voting in Georgia begins October 15th and extends through November 1st.  Election Day is on November 5th, 2024.

###

As the organizing, advocacy, and electoral arm of Planned Parenthood Southeast, PPSEA engages in a range of electoral activities, including voter education and mobilization. We firmly believe that elected officials should champion policies and programs that empower women and their families to make informed choices regarding the prevention of unintended pregnancies and the cultivation of healthy families. PPSEA is dedicated to educating and mobilizing the public while supporting the election of lawmakers who prioritize these critical issues.
