(Providence, RI) –– Tuesday’s Rhode Island state primary election resulted in victories for the majority of candidates endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island Political Action Committee (PPV!RI PAC). Once elected, these legislators will champion reproductive rights and enhance access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, for all Rhode Islanders.

“This year, all the freedoms we’ve fought for are on the line. It’s critical that we elect state legislators who will defend the right to make personal health decisions and ensure that access to care remains protected for everyone,” said Gretchen Raffa, Vice President of Public Policy, Advocacy, and Organizing at Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island and Treasurer of the PPV!RI PAC, “We must stay focused on getting these candidates elected in November to continue the progress we’ve made here in the Ocean State.”

These primary victories include; incumbents Brandon Potter (HD-16), Brandon Voas (HD-57), Cherie Cruz (HD-58), Val Lawson (SD-14), Susan Sosnowski (SD-37), challengers Kelsey Coletta (HD-42), Cameron Deutsch (SD-17), and Jenni Furtado (HD-64 open seat).

Since 2019, PPV!RI PAC-endorsed elected officials have played a crucial role in advancing policies that protect and advance reproductive freedom, including major victories like the passing of the Reproductive Privacy Act, the Equality in Abortion Coverage Act, and the Health Care Provider Shield Act. Rhode Island continues to protect and expand access to abortion under state law, largely due to the significant presence of PPV!RI PAC-endorsed candidates in the General Assembly.
