TODAY: Abortion Advocates Mark One-Year Anniversary of SB 20
RALEIGH, N.C. – Today at 10 a.m., abortion advocates will come together for a press conference to mark the one-year anniversary of the passage of Senate Bill 20, North Carolina’s monster abortion ban that banned abortion after 12 weeks and added new restrictive measures for all abortion care. Representatives from several reproductive advocacy organizations will be joined by an abortion provider, patient storyteller, and legislators, who will reflect on the state of abortion access and speak to the critical importance of this election for protecting abortion rights in North Carolina.
After SB 20 passed through the legislature last year, several leaders of the legislative majority spoke in favor of passing further restrictions on abortion if they maintain a supermajority in 2025. Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson – the Republican candidate for governor – has also stated that, if he were to be elected with a willing legislature, he would seek to pass a complete ban on abortion with no exceptions.
