The Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Christopher Coons in the upcoming election for Delaware’s Senate seat. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is proud to endorse Chris Coons for U.S. Senate,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.  “Chris understands the importance of trusting women when it comes to their health, and will be a passionate advocate for women and women’s reproductive rights.”

As the current county executive of New Castle County, Coons has led several projects to improve education and public safety. He has worked with several nonprofits, including the Council for the Homeless and the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, and serves on the boards of First State Innovation, the Boys & Girls Club, and the Delaware College of Art and Design.

“Voters in Delaware want someone who will make women’s health a priority,” said Nanci Hoffman, Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Delaware president. “Chris Coons will be that person.  He understands the needs of Delawareans during these tough economic times and believes in the importance of health care access for all.  He will put commonsense policies and ideas on women’s health and reproductive health above ideology or politics.”

As a U.S. Senator, Coons will protect a women’s right to make the most private personal medical decisions, advocate for full insurance coverage of all FDA-approved prescription contraceptives, work to overturn gag rules prohibiting health care providers from fully counseling patients, and support public funding for reproductive health services, prenatal care and family planning to keep women healthy regardless of income.

The election will be held on November 2.
