Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Elizabeth Esty for CT-05

Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Elizabeth Esty for Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District today. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“We are proud to endorse Elizabeth Esty for Congress today,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “We know that Elizabeth will fight for women and will stand up to politicians in Washington who continue to launch attacks against women’s access to health care.”

Esty is running against Republican GOP state Sen. Andrew Roraback. The 5th Congressional District is currently served by incumbent Democratic Representative Christopher Murphy.

“Elizabeth Esty understands that health care needs to be accessible and affordable for everyone, and she has vowed to be a strong advocate for women’s health care access in Congress,” said Judy Tabar, president of Planned Parenthood Votes! Connecticut. “Women and families in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District can count on Elizabeth Esty to fight for them in Washington and to put women’s health care needs ahead of ideology and politics.”

Esty has vowed to be a strong advocate for Planned Parenthood patients in Connecticut. In 2011, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) served approximately 70,000 patients by providing a wide range of preventive health care services, including over 62,000 contraceptive services, over 37,000 STD/STI and HIV screening visits and over 25,000 women’s health services. PPSNE is one of the region’s largest providers of family planning and reproductive health care services.
