Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund

“It’s important that the candidates for president not only have a conversation about the devastating injustice happening to the people in Flint, MI, but they offer solutions. Tonight, Hillary Clinton did just that. Clinton pushed the candidates to travel to Flint for this conversation to elevate the tragedy facing the community and focus our nation to solve this immoral problem.

“What’s happening in Flint, MI, is a reproductive healthcare and environmental justice issue facing women, families, and children, who are disproportionately people of color or low-income. It is a fundamental human right to have access to safe water and live in a community where children will not face lead-poisoning nor families be ignored by their elected officials. The people in Flint deserve justice.”

As reported by Think Progress, Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan has been working with partners and offering resources to their patients on the impact of lead-contaminated water since April 2015.
