Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, released the following statement on tonight’s debate:

“We woke up this morning uncertain if the highest court was going to allow doctors to continue to provide emergency medical care to pregnant people. This uncertainty is a result of Donald Trump’s America – where 28 million women, trans, and non-binary people live without the freedom to control their own bodies and futures. This election is going to come down to what type of future we want for ourselves and future generations.

“Only one of the candidates on tonight’s debate stage believes in a future where people have the freedom to decide whether, when, and how they become a parent – and that candidate is Joe Biden. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris leave us with no questions as to where they stand when it comes to protecting access to abortion and sexual and reproductive health care. After being handed the challenge of rebuilding a right that was stripped away, Biden and Harris have been partners in the fight to restore protections for patients and providers at every turn.

“We cannot go further back – we must press forward. And the only people we can trust to help us get there are President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Much like voters have shown us in every election since Roe was overturned, the people will remember that in November.”
