In today’s Quickie: Crisis pregnancy centers received $430 million in federal money and Senate Democrats release a new report.
CPCs GET FEDERAL MONEY FOR MISINFORMATION, AND IT’S PAST TIME FOR THAT TO CHANGE: Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) — aka anti-abortion centers that spread misinformation and bully people into carrying unwanted pregnancies — have been receiving federal money for decades. Yikes! But did you know taxpayers have funded nearly $430 MILLION over the last five years? A new report has revealed that more than 650 CPCs in 49 states received federal funding between 2017-2023 across a variety of programs, with little transparency.
Thankfully, U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD-08) and Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL-10) have called on the Government Accountability Office to investigate this funding, writing in a letter, “Given the concerns from medical professionals and reproductive health experts that CPCs are not bound by medical and ethical practice standards and often do not provide medically accurate information or health care…we have serious concerns that CPCs continue to receive millions in federal aid with little transparency and accountability to the public.” We’re with you on that one!

THE FACTS CONTINUE TO BE CLEAR: ABORTION BANS ARE BAD, NEW SENATE REPORT DETAILS KEY CONSEQUENCES TWO YEARS AFTER DOBBS: In the Senate, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and 14 women Democratic senators released a new report that details the harm of abortion bans for people across the country, even in states where care is available. Longer travel and wait times, provider shortages and medical emergencies are all more common because of abortion bans. We truly hate to see it.
