In today’s Quickie: Mifepristone is still under attack and a PP Votes spotlight.
MIFEPRISTONE IS STILL UNDER ATTACK: Let’s review the facts: more than six million people have used mifepristone, a safe and effective medication for more than two decades – and despite that, politically motivated attacks on access to mifepristone remain ongoing, as does the federal case against it.
After the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed the plaintiffs in the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA case in June, the case has now made its way back to the district court judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, who ruled to take mifepristone off the market in the first place. Idaho, Missouri, and Kansas were allowed to intervene in the case last January and are trying to keep the case alive to restrict access to this essential medicine.
One thing is for sure: attacks on abortion access and reproductive freedom will continue.
DONALD TRUMP’S ABORTION BANS HAVE DIRE CONSEQUENCES: In the two years since Roe was overturned, Donald Trump has paraded around the country, bragging about ending federal abortion rights and calling state abortion bans a “beautiful thing.” [Consider: As he boasts along the campaign trail, evidence of the devastating human toll of Trump's bans continues to mount.]
While pregnant patients across the country languish because of Trump’s abortion bans, Donald Trump’s cronies are mocking their traumatic experiences.
Jenny Lawson, executive director for Planned Parenthood Votes, said, “If Donald Trump wants credit for overturning Roe, then he also gets credit for the devastating – and even deadly – impacts of state abortion bans. This is the reality of abortion bans. But Donald Trump and his Project 2025 cronies care more about their own power than they care about real Americans’ lives and health care. Voters can’t trust Donald Trump to protect their rights or their lives, and they will not trust him with their vote in November.”
