Welcome to “The Quickie”

Welcome to “The Quickie” — Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s daily tipsheet on the top health care & reproductive rights stories of the day. You can read “The Quickie'' online here.

In today’s Quickie: Survey shows majority of young people won’t work in abortion ban states, PPMW awarded grant to expand health outreach, and a PP Votes spotlight.

NEW SURVEY SHOWS MAJORITY OF YOUNG PEOPLE WON’T WORK IN STATES WITH ABORTION BANS: Yesterday, Generation Lab/CNBC released a new survey that surveyed 1,033 people between the ages of 18 and 34 on topics related to the job market, the economy, the 2024 presidential election, inflation concerns, and other big issues impacting young Americans. Researchers found that nearly two-thirds of respondents would “probably not” or “definitely not” live in a state that banned abortion. 45% of respondents said that they would “definitely reject” or “probably reject” a job offer located in a state where abortion is illegal.

Companies, take note: this polling is yet another example of what has been clearly understood in other research, workers want to be employed by organizations who support reproductive freedom, and that recruiting reflects that as well.

PPMW PROMOTORAS PROGRAM AWARDED GRANT TO ADVANCE HEALTH OUTREACH: Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) recently received the Underserved Communities Projects grant from Montgomery County, Maryland, to continue to grow PPMW’s Promotoras de Salud community health outreach program. Promotoras de Salud are Spanish-speaking peer educators who teach their local community about sexual and reproductive health and rights and work to destigmatize complex and taboo topics.

By creating a new opportunity to access this formal certification, PPMW hopes to strengthen the public health workforce of the DC metropolitan region and increase Latino representation in the area of community health. Andrea Augustine, assistant vice president of Education and Community Engagement at PPMW, explains, “Community health workers can make an important difference in addressing unmet needs related to social determinants of health, which can drive health disparities in Latinx communities.”

VOTERS ARE NOT MOVED BY TRUMP’S NEW STANCE ON ABORTION: A new study conducted by Navigator Research indicates that voters are not convinced by Trump’s latest attempt to hide from his stance on abortion issues. The study found that 62% of voters believe the truth: Trump would sign a national abortion ban.

Trump’s attempt to lie about his stance on abortion access, while doubling down by claiming credit for overturning Roe is a blatant contradiction. Trump will say anything to try and gain more votes. But voters see right through his attempts at manipulation.
