Welcome to “The Quickie”

Welcome to “The Quickie” — Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s daily tipsheet on the top health care & reproductive rights stories of the day. You can read “The Quickie'' online here.

In today’s Quickie: A PP Votes spotlight and Senate to vote on the Right to Contraception Act.

CRITICAL RACES FOR REPRO FREEDOM SET IN MONTANA: Yesterday’s Montana GOP primary results set up races for U.S. Senate, governor, and the state Supreme Court that will determine the future of abortion access for the state. In response, Quinn Leighton, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Votes in Montana released the following statement:

“With a national abortion ban looming and Montanans’ rights yet to be secured, we cannot afford to elect politicians like Tim Sheehy and Greg Gianforte. They are already scheming to eliminate access to reproductive health care at the state and federal levels, and they will stop at nothing to keep Montanans from controlling their own futures. They’re banking on Montanans believing their lies — but we know better. When Montanans decide, reproductive freedom wins. Planned Parenthood Votes will do everything we can to empower Montana voters to elect leaders that will protect our rights this November.”

Reminder: U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy is endorsed by SBA Pro-Life America — which requires candidates to support a national abortion ban — and has refused to pledge his support for federal IVF protections. Gov. Greg Gianforte has spent his time in office signing a dozen abortion restrictions, including several bans, and asking the state Supreme Court to undo protections for abortion rights against the will of Montana voters.

ISSA HISTORIC DAY! U.S. SENATE TO VOTE ON RIGHT TO CONTRACEPTION ACT: Today we will know where Senators stand on birth control access. Reproductive rights champions in Congress have been fighting to protect access to sexual and reproductive health care amid growing attacks — including on birth control. The Senate will vote for the first time on the Right to Contraception Act today, a crucial piece of legislation that will protect access to birth control…a right that the majority of people agree should be protected. This bill has been led by Senators Markey, Hirono, and Duckworth, and been brought to the floor by Leader Schumer. It should be common sense: Everyone should be able to get the birth control they need when they need it, free from political interference.
