PP ACTION FUND PREZ JOINS VP HARRIS ON DOBBS ANNIVERSARY IN MD: Yesterday, on the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision, Planned Parenthood Action Fund president and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson joined Vice President Kamala Harris and reproductive rights leaders at the University of Maryland to rally support for reproductive freedom.
“Make no mistake…it’s always been about power and control at the expense of our bodies, our lives, and our futures. And there’s one person, and one person alone who is responsible for this moment. And that is Donald Trump. If he gets back into power, he will be coming for a national abortion ban,” said McGill Johnson at the rally. “But President Biden and Vice President Harris are fighting every single day to safeguard our rights. They have spent four years protecting patients and providers, pushing back on our opponents, showing up for us in court, and defending freedom and democracy…We must fight like hell to get them back to the White House.”

SCOTUS TO HEAR CASE ON GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE BAN IN TENNESSEE: Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it will hear a case that challenges a ban on gender-affirming care for transgender and nonbinary youth in Tennessee. This marks the first time the Supreme Court will hear a case about whether a ban on access to gender-affirming care violates the Constitution of the United States. Tennessee’s ban was enacted early last year. In September, following a lawsuit brought by the ACLU, the ACLU of Tennessee, and Lambda Legal in which the Biden administration joined, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals allowed the ban to remain in effect as the lawsuit continued. As Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood Federation of America said in a statement, “As we’ve long known, the fight for reproductive rights and the fight for LGBTQ+ equality are inextricably linked — both issues are rooted in threats to our fundamental freedom to control our own bodies and decide what our families and futures look like. But no public official should have a say in people’s personal medical decisions.”
