Welcome to “The Quickie”

Welcome to “The Quickie” — Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s daily tipsheet on the top health care & reproductive rights stories of the day. You can read “The Quickie'' online here.

In today’s Quickie: PP Action Fund prez on EMATALA, PPAZ responds to house vote to repeal total abortion ban, and PP Texas Votes holds a press call.

PP ACTION FUND PREZ ON SCOTUS ORAL ARGUMENTS OVER EMERGENCY ABORTION CARE: Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case that could end federal protections for pregnant patients facing emergencies that require abortion care. After the arguments, Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, joined CNN’s Wolf Blitzer to reflect on the severity of the case saying “to hear the justices argue about the impact to organs…that’s really what this case is about the right to let patients die, and we should all be deeply concerned about what they’ve taken up here.”

Alexis also joined ABC News Live with Linsey Davis to discuss the possible impact if the Supreme Court were to rule in Idaho’s favor explaining, “I think we will continue to see these draconian efforts to stop people from getting access to health care that they need and the decisions that they need to make about their own bodies and their lives and futures.”

PLANNED PARENTHOOD ADVOCATES OF ARIZONA RESPONDS TO HOUSE VOTE ON TOTAL ABORTION BAN REPEAL: In response to the Arizona House’s vote on HB 2677, a bill to repeal the state’s total abortion ban, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona Angela Florez issued the following statement

“Today, Arizona is one step closer to repealing the state’s Civil War-era total abortion ban. While the repeal still must pass the Senate, this is a major win for reproductive freedom. We must celebrate today’s vote in support of abortion rights and harness our enthusiasm to spread the word and urge lawmakers in the Senate to support this necessary repeal bill.

Despite this step forward, Arizonans cannot stop fighting. Even with the repeal of the Civil War-era ban, the state will still have a ban on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy that denies people access to critical care. And lawmakers continue to attack Arizonans’ ability to access reproductive health care. Our right to control our bodies and lives is hanging on by a thread.

Thankfully, voters will have the opportunity to take back control if the Arizona Abortion Access Act is on the ballot this November. Abortion bans are out-of-step with the will of Arizonans and will force pregnant people to leave their communities for essential health care. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona will continue fighting to ensure everyone has the right to make decisions about their health and futures.”
